EMBASSY OF DENMARK

Denmark and Bangladesh have been partners since Bangladesh gained independence in 1971. The Bangladesh Country Programme (BCP) 2016-2021 provides the two partners with a coherent framework that assembles a wide range of activities into a whole in order to improve the strategic dialogue and increase the effect of the development cooperation. Implementation of the BCP is done in partnerships with government agencies, the UN, NGOs, civil society and the private sector. The BCP consists of three Thematic Programmes, namely 1) Agricultural Growth and Employment, 2) Climate Resilience and Sustainable Energy and 3) Governance & Rights.

The Programme Adviser will be engaged in the Embassy Development Team/Danida?s work to enhance its agricultural development portfolio with an increased emphasis on market linkages and value chain development. Based on lessons learned from years of development cooperation within the agricultural sector, Danida is seeking to consolidate results achieved from its previous nation-wide focus on livelihood improvements and skills development, rural economic development and climate resilience of marginalised and landless farmers. Consequently, it is envisaged that the emphasis on farmer skills training through the Integrated Farm Management/Farmer Field School approach will be increasingly augmented with a more private sector led, value chain development approach to economic development and the creation of decent jobs. Safer food and improved nutrition will increasingly become guiding principles for Danida?s support within the sector. Also, in line with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, the new approach will emphasize issues such as climate and environment, gender equality and human rights.
